WANT TO VOLUNTEER?

Volunteers are always needed and it can be such a fulfilling experience. If you have a minimum of an hour or two to spare each week please consider joining our group. You must be 18 yo and we require a 6 month comittment either socializing cats or dogs, walking dogs or helping out in other aspects some of which are listed below. Volunteer hours at the shelter are  Monday through Saturday 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. so be sure you have this time slot available in  your schedule. We need dedicated people who are truly interested in making a difference in our animals lives. We need volunteers :



  1. To walk, play, socialize and train pets to be the best they can be.


  1. To bathe dogs on the Thursday or Friday prior to an adoption event which are usually the first and third Saturday of the month.


  1. To take videos of our adoptable pets for you tube.


  1. To participate in our adoption events throughout the Greater New Haven area held on the first and third Saturday of each month. Hours are  from 11

a.m. to 3 p.m. We need dog and cat handlers to assist the public in choosing a new companion. We also need help loading the adoption van prior to events and unloading the van after the events.


  1. To assist with transportation and help find rescues.


  1. We need cat, dog and small animal fosters to provide a warm safe environment for healing or just learning how to be with a family. To be a foster you must complete orientation and be known by the staff.

You must attend a VOLUNTEER GENERAL ORIENTATION. Dates are determined monthly and posted in advance on our website.  There is no need to sign up or apply. Just come to the shelter at 11a.m. on the specified date. The general orientation will last approximately 1.5 hours and includes a basic overview of shelter policies and volunteer opportunities, and  basic handling of the dogs. After the basic orientation you will be assigned to a mentor who will continue training and assistance until you are comfortable to be on your own. For those interested there will be a separate training session to work with cats which will be scheduled after the basic orientation.
